Full Steam Ahead
Ron DeSantis announced today that the state would move to Phase 3 of reopening. In making the announcement, DeSantis said coronavirus survival rates were at 94 percent in the state, and that hospitalizations were down. DeSantis also said all penalties or fines for refusing to wear masks will be suspended. Phase 3 of Florida’s Reopening Plan does suggest restaurants have some social distancing protocols and take sanitation precautions.

Balancing Act
Mike Bloomberg has raised millions so Floridians convicted Of nonviolent felonies can pay off fines. This initiative was started because the Florida state legislature ruled that the nonviolent offenders had to pay fines before they could vote. Essentially a Poll tax. Now the Florida AG is trying to find a way to continue to keep some Floridians disenfranchised, by asking the FBI to investigate. All this after Floridians voted in 2018 by a 2 to 1 margin to allow nonviolent felons to vote.

The Family Reacts
The justice system failed Breonna Taylor, says Tamika Palmer, the mother of the emergency room technician whom police shot and killed in her own apartment in March. She says Kentucky’s attorney general was not up to the job of achieving justice for Taylor. It was the family’s first public address since Cameron announced Wednesday that a grand jury had declined to directly charge three Louisville police officers over Taylor’s death.
