The Diary of Anne Frank

The Diary of Anne Frank

Stageworks Theatre Company in Tampa is putting on a touching show to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the publication of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

Anne Frank’s astonishing diary has become an integral part of how we remember one of the worst times of human history, perhaps it is even more important today than it was when it was written. Anne Frank’s diary is significant because it provides a first-hand account of the Holocaust in Germany. Anne discusses eluding the Nazis and her experience in a concentration camp. It’s especially significant because it’s from the perspective of a child. The diary illuminates the coming-of-age of a complex, passionate young girl as she falls in love, grows into a woman, and struggles to survive with her family amid the chaos of war and religious persecution, and is filled with its young author’s spirit – her “boundless desire for all that is beautiful and good.”

The production is directed by local theatrical veteran Karla Hartley, and Mercy Roberts, 16, plays the young Jewish heroine who was so brave in the face of the Holocaust.

The first performance is on Friday, February 4th, and tickets start at $35.
